Seth Meyers on Wednesday drew a stark comparison between Donald Trump’s campaign promise to lower the price of groceries with the president-elect’s nominated Cabinet’s actual “top priority” of tax cuts.
Trump’s second-term Cabinet is stacked with billionaires and will be the wealthiest administration ever, said Meyers. And that’s not including Elon Musk, the world’s richest man who Trump has tapped to lead an unofficial agency targeting public spending.
After airing news reports on how Trump and his administration want to renew expiring tax cuts, Meyers came to the realization: “Oh my God, they’re not bringing down the cost of groceries. They’re just giving themselves a tax cut.”
“Do you know what this means?” the comedian asked, turning to the side as the studio turned dark. “Donald Trump lied,” he answered himself.
