“Late Night” host Seth Meyers on Monday accused Democrats of failing to sufficiently combat the shock-and-awe tactics being deployed by President Donald Trump’s weeks-old second administration.
Meyers listed just some of the controversial moves made by the Trump administration so far — from firing inspectors general to forcing out top FBI officials.
Then the comedian said: “I thought you were just going to lower the price of eggs! What is all this other shit? It’s like hiring a handyman to fix your toilet and when you come back, he’s pulling out the fixtures, rerouting the pipes and replacing your shower with a Jacuzzi that also doesn’t work.”
Some Democrats are urging people “not to freak out at everything Trump does,” noted Meyers. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) last week said how his party will tackle Trump: “We’re not going to swing at every pitch. We’re going to swing at the ones that matter for the American people.”
Meyers commented on that line: “Get your bat off your fucking shoulder. Democrats should be teeing off on this guy,” with his remarks drawing applause from his studio audience.
