Joe Jonas Says Dating After His Divorce From Sophie Turner Has Been A ‘Scary’ Experience

Returning to the dating scene after a long-term relationship can be a daunting experience, even when you’re a pop star like Joe Jonas.

Appearing on Facebook’s TalkShopLive Wednesday, Jonas spoke about the inspiration for “Only Love,” a track which appears on his new solo album, “Music for People Who Believe in Love.” The song’s title, he explained, came from a conversation he had with a recent love interest.

“I was seeing somebody at the time, and I was kind of having this idea of dating again. It was really scary and intimidating,” Jonas said. “Love takes different shapes and forms, and I was rediscovering what that was.”

“And this person kinda comically, sarcastically was like, ‘It’s only love,’” he continued. “And I was like, ‘OK, it’s a big deal to me.’ And a big deal to them, too. But it’s OK to take a leap of faith and just try again and just put yourself out there.”

Jonas didn’t identify his romantic partner by name, nor did he offer a timeline for when the discussion took place.

The two-time Grammy nominee was previously married to “Game of Thrones” actor Sophie Turner, with whom he shares daughters Willa, 4, and Delphine, 2.

Jonas and Turner split in 2023, though it took nearly a year for their divorce to be finalized amid a complex custody dispute over their children. In early 2024, Jonas was romantically linked to model Stormi Bree, but the pair appeared to have gone their separate ways by June of last year.

Appearing on NBC’s “Today” Friday, Jonas confirmed “Only Love” was originally written for inclusion on a future Jonas Brothers album. Ultimately, he felt that the song’s lyrics were highly specific to his own experiences and emotions, so he chose to record it for “Music for People Who Believe in Love,” released Friday.

“Sometimes putting pen to paper and paper to lyrics is relieving, rewarding,” he said.

As for Turner, she briefly alluded to her divorce in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar published in October.
