“Late Show” host Stephen Colbert said President Donald Trump’s aides are struggling to keep him informed of world events for one very Trump-like reason.
“According to intelligence experts who have tried to brief him, the problem with Trump is that he doesn’t read,” Colbert said, citing a Rolling Stone report. “Which is appalling.”
Colbert said one CIA analyst reportedly said that while Trump didn’t read his daily intelligence briefing, he “touched” it.
“Touching it doesn’t count, I don’t think,” Colbert said.
A retired intelligence officer told Rolling Stone that the briefings were the “most difficult challenges” the intelligence community faced.
Colbert was left in disbelief.
“Yes, the most difficult challenges that the entire intelligence community of the United States has ever faced,” he repeated. “Getting Trump to learn, I believe, is the plot of the next ‘Mission: Impossible.’”
There is now talk of giving Trump intelligence briefings via Fox News-style reports since he likes to watch the right-wing network.
“I think it actually makes sense because he is always like looking at Fox News and the best way to get information into his brain is just to put the information someplace he’s already looking all the time,” Colbert said. “So either they have to put the top secret information on Fox News, or at the bottom of a chicken bucket.”
