A$AP Rocky is clearly one of Anna Wintour’s favorite fashion aficionados of the moment, but even he wasn’t sure about the latest offer from Vogue’s editor-in-chief.
During an appearance on “Late Night With Seth Meyers” this week, the rapper revealed that he thought Wintour’s proposition for him to co-chair this year’s Met Gala was a prank.
“Absolutely,” the rapper said. “I tend to get these prank calls and, you know, I said, ‘Nah, this can’t be real.’”
It was indeed real, and “a dream come true” for Rocky.
The event had three other co-chairs as well: actor Colman Domingo, producer and musician Pharrell Williams, and Formula One racing superstar Lewis Hamilton.
Wintour told Meyers that coming up with the co-chair list was fairly easy, as she “had a list of four men, and they all said yes.”

The theme for this year’s Met Ball was “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” with a focus on Black dandyism and menswear.
Rocky told Meyers that he was “happy” the theme was centered on “celebrating Black dandyism and Black excellence.”
“I was in awe,” he said.
Rocky and his longtime partner, Rihanna, made headlines even before the Met Gala started, when it was revealed the two are expecting their third child.
Wintour recently bestowed very high praise on the rapper and Rihanna, as she crowned them one of the most influential couples in fashion.

“First of all, they’re very talented, they’re very brilliant,” Wintour said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight in March. “I think they have wonderful values, and they have an enormous amount of style.”
