Jimmy Fallon on Thursday hit Donald Trump with a brutal read after the president signed an executive order to dismantle the Department of Education.
The “Tonight Show” host, after mentioning the news, paused for boos from his crowd before tearing into Trump, “It’s a historic move that years from now kids will not read about in history textbooks.”
He swiftly shifted to a comedic bit with a mock Trump aide named Matthew Reed who jokingly assured that the president’s move ― in line with his campaign promises to scrap the department ― isn’t “that complicated.”
“We don’t need the board of education. I mean, c’mon, this isn’t rock science,” said the phony aide as part of his brainless breakdown of the executive order.
The comment left Fallon in a daze as he pressed Reed on his word choice.
“Pretty sure the term is rock science like the study of rocks, geography. Ever heard of it?” the bogus aide explained.
Fallon then asked about educators worried about layoffs due to the move.
“Look, no one likes getting laid off, I get that. But it’s like the old saying goes, when one window close ― um. When one door op ― you open a door and the window, the window will open the door for you,” Reed asserted.
