Dax Shepard is recalling nearly brawling with fellow actor Eric Dane during a tense Alcoholics Anonymous meeting years ago.
“Eric Dane, who I now fucking love, I have such a sweetness for him,” Shepard began telling guest Brad Pitt on Monday’s episode of his “Armchair Expert” podcast. “But when we first were around each other, it was not good.”
The comedian said the heated incident initially kicked off after the “Grey’s Anatomy” star “threatened a dude in the meeting.”
Shepard said it was then that he fired back at Dane, telling him, “Let’s go, motherfucker.”
The “Parenthood” star claimed that Dane had been upset over someone continuously resetting the timer at the meeting. Dane later revealed in a separate episode of “Armchair Expert” that the person who kept tampering with the timer was Shepard’s AA sponsor, whom he did not name.
“[Dane] goes, ‘If you hit that timer again, I’m gonna fucking throw you in that candle,’” Shepard recounted. “And I go, ‘That’s it, motherfucker. Stand up, let’s go outside.’”
The director alleged that the two then took their quarrel outside of the house where the AA meeting was being held.
“He stands up, we go outside and I’m about to beat the fuck out of him—at an AA meeting, where we’re coming for healing and understanding,” Shepard explained.
The “Ranch” alum went on to clarify to Pitt that he and the “Euphoria” actor have since become “friends now.”
Dane, who revealed his ALS diagnosis in April, shared his perspective on the initial feud while appearing on an episode of Shepard’s podcast last September.
“I was not in the best space, let’s just say that,” Dane joked during the episode at the time. “I may not have even been sober at the time…”
