Nicole Kidman turned heads with a fresh hairstyle at Monday’s Met Gala.
While her strapless black Balenciaga gown was classically Kidman, she did something very different with her locks.
The star looked chic as she traded her typically long tresses into a short side-swept crop with deep, dark roots.
The “Babygirl” actor’s hairstylist Adir Abergel explained the inspiration behind the transformation on his Instagram, describing the “tailored short cut that brought out the essence of Dandyism” on the star.
“I wanted to celebrate this years theme by honoring the Dandies and their individuality, elegance, and confidence-where every detail is tailored to that unique person,” his caption continued.
This year’s Met Gala celebrated the Costume Institute’s latest exhibit, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” and was an ode to Black fashion and its roots in the dandy aesthetic.
The dandy movement goes back to the Reconstruction era but really began to blossom during the Harlem Renaissance as Black art, music, literature and culture flourished in the face of segregation.

“Dandyism is by definition an act of refusal to fit into or even accept given or typical categories of identity,” curator Monica Miller explained during the exhibit’s press preview on Monday.
