Morgan Wallen likely got more than he bargained for when he walked off the set of “Saturday Night Live” early last week.
Viewers noticed that the country singer, who served as the episode’s musical guest, made a surprisingly swift exit before the end credits even started to roll during the show’s “goodnights.”
Shortly after, Wallen shared a photo of a private plane with the caption, “Get me to God’s Country.”
Naturally, “SNL” cast members and writers couldn’t resist taking a jab at the buzz Wallen created, and poked fun at his outburst during this week’s episode.
To kick off the show, James Austin Johnson portrayed President Donald Trump in a cold open sketch tackling tariffs.
“I even put tariffs on an island that is uninhabited by humans. It’s called Heard and McDonald Island,” Johnson said as Trump.
“You know, I had to mock up some artwork of McDonald Island,” he said.
“I want to go to there. Get me to God’s Country, right?” he said, as the audience burst into laughter and applause. “Remember that? Wow.”
Colin Jost later took a jab at Wallen during a “Weekend Update” segment.
“In the past two days, investors have lost over $6 trillion,” Jost said during another segment tackling Trump’s tariffs.
“Money is leaving the stock market faster than Morgan Wallen at ‘goodnights,’” he quipped, as the audience again roared with laughter.
Kenan Thompson is the only “SNL” cast member so far to publicly speak about Wallen’s quick exit.
“I don’t know what goes through people’s minds when they decide to do stuff like that,” Thompson said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly published last week. “I don’t know if he understood the assignment or not, or if he was really feeling a certain kind of way.”
Thompson said Wallen’s exit was “definitely a spike in the norm.”
“We’re so used to everybody just turning around and high-fiving us, everybody’s saying, ‘Good job, good job, good job,’” he said. “So when there’s a departure from that, it’s like, ‘Hmm, I wonder what that’s about?’”
Thompson also added that he wasn’t sure if Wallen “had to go to the potty or something.”
Wallen has not yet said anything about the incident though he is now selling “Get me to God’s Country” merchandise on his website.

The country singer has had a rocky history with “SNL.” Back in October 2020, he was pulled from the show’s lineup for violating COVID-19 safety guidelines.
When he returned that December, he cracked jokes about the incident during his appearance.
